COVID-19 Emergency Benefits 

The government of Ontario is providing a three month(May 2020-July 2020) benefit to provide additional support to families/individuals on OW or ODSP.The extended Emergency Benefit is intended to provide emergency financial support for special services, items or payments to address health and safety issues related to COVID-19 to those not in receipt of the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB). Recipients who have received the March/April Emergency Benefit and who qualify for the extended benefit will automatically receive the extended benefit in May, June, and July.  LEARN MORE

  • Singles: eligible for a maximum of $100
  • Families: eligible for a maximum of $200

Emergency Health Related Items 

  • Emergency health related and essential items continue to be available to OW, ODSP and non-Social Assistance recipients through the City of London Discretionary Benefits program.
  • Due to the closure of many vendors, staff will work with the client to determine the best method of providing support for these needed items.
  • Any requests that are not included as part of the City of London’s Discretionary Benefits Programs items and maximums will be considered on a case by case basis in consultation with management.

Emergency OW Assistance

If you live in Ontario and are not currently a recipient of OW or ODSP, you may be eligible for up to 48 days of emergency assistance. A crisis or emergency that would leave you not having enough money for food and housing includes situations where you:

  • have been affected by COVID-19
  • are being evicted from your home
  • are in or are leaving an abusive relationship
  • are worried about your safety

You are not eligible if you are:

  • getting assistance from Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support Program
  • Not residing in Ontario
